Childhood
On July 28, 1983, in Madras, Tamil Nadu, Dhanush was born as Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja to Tamil film producer and director Kasthuri Raja and his wife Vijayalakshmi. At first, he wanted to become a chef and study hotel management. But Selvaraghavan, his older brother and a filmmaker, pushed him to become a performer. Additionally, Dhanush has two sisters, Karthiga Karthik and Vimalageetha.

Beginnings of an acting career, 2002–2010
Venkatesh Prabhu took on the stage name “Dhanush” after being influenced by Kuruthipunal’s fictional clandestine operation (1995). His father, Kasthuri Raja, directed the sleeper hit teen drama film Thulluvadho Ilamai, in which he made his debut. After that, he starred in the romantic psychological thriller Kaadhal Kondein, which was directed by his brother Selvaraghavan for the first time in 2003.

In the movie, Dhanush played Vinodh, a mentally ill young man who longed for his friend’s love and eventually became possessive of her. The movie was a huge commercial success and received positive reviews when it was first released, ultimately marking Dhanush’s breakthrough in Tamil cinema. Additionally, the movie brought him his initial submission for the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actor. The romantic comedy Thiruda Thirudi (2003), which was a critical and financial success, was his next motion picture.

Dhanush made appearances in Sulaan and Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan in 2004. He later starred in Dreams, another movie that received negative reviews.[Reference required] Like their earlier projects, his father directed the movie. In 2005, Dhanush starred in Devathaiyai Kanden and contributed to Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam, directed by Balu Mahendra. Dhanush has frequently said that he only began taking acting seriously after working with Mahendra, despite the fact that it was a commercial failure at the box office.[Reference required]

He and his brother got back together for the cult gangster movie Pudhupettai in 2006. It depicted a young man’s path from a street kid to a gangster, garnering mixed reviews at first, but Dhanush’s portrayal was highly praised. Though it has a sizable cult following, the movie has undergone a critical reevaluation over time and is now regarded as one of the best Tamil films ever produced.[Reference required]

For his role in the movie, Dhanush later garnered his second nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil. After Devathaiyai Kanden, he also reteamed with Boopathy Pandian that year for Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam, a romantic comedy starring Prakash Raj and Shriya Saran.[Reference required] After a string of mediocre to below-mediocre box office performances, it was Dhanush’s first big commercial success.

Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram, Dhanush’s 2007 debut, did not perform well at the box office workplace. The movie was a remake of Jogi (2005), a popular Kannada-language film. But around Diwali 2007, his second movie, Polladhavan, came out. The 1948 Italian neorealist movie Bicycle Thieves served as the inspiration for Polladhavan, and Dhanush’s performance was praised.

The plot of Dhanush’s subsequent film, which was directed by rookie Mithran Jawahar and eventually titled Yaaradi Nee Mohini, was based on a Telugu film remake that his brother had done the year before. Due to the romantic comedy’s significant critical and financial success, Dhanush received his third nomination for the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Later, he made a brief cameo for Kuselan, his father-in-law Rajinikanth’s business. His next project was Padikathavan, directed by Suraj and released in January 2009.[Reference required] His performance was well-received and commended. He worked with director Mithran Jawahar on his following two films, Kutty and Uthama Puthiran.
