Under Sun Pictures, Kalanithi Maran is the film’s producer. Dhanush plays the major role alongside Sundeep Kishan, Saravanan, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Kalidas Jayaram, S. J. Suryah, and Prakash Raj.
Since this is Dhanush’s 50th movie in which he plays the lead, the movie was first publicly announced in January 2023 under the working title D50. The actual title was revealed in February 2024. In July 2023, principal photography got underway. Most of the filming took place in Chennai, and it was finished by mid-December 2023. A. R. Rahman wrote the film’s soundtrack, Om Prakash handled the photography, and Prasanna GK handled the editing.
About Dhanush :
Born on July 28, 1983, Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja, better known by his stage name Dhanush, is an Indian actor, director, producer, lyricist, and playback singer who mostly performs in Tamil films. His credits include fourteen SIIMA Awards, seven Filmfare Awards South, a Filmfare Award, and four National Film Awards (two as an actor and two as a producer). He has starred in 46 films over his career.Listed six times in Forbes India Celebrity 100, he is one of the most paid actors in Indian film.
The 2002 coming-of-age film Thulluvadho Ilamai, which was helmed by Dhanush’s father Kasthuri Raja, was his debut feature. In the critically and commercially successful films Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008) and Polladhavan (2007), he found greater success. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil and the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as a rooster fight jockey in Aadukalam (2010).
The films Maryan (2013), Velaiilla Pattadhari (2014), Anegan (2015), Kodi (2016), Vadachennai (2018), Asuran (2019), Thiruchitrambalam (2022) and Vaathi (2023) were among his best-performing works.
Within a month after its release, Vaathi and Thiruchitrambalam joined the 100 Crore Club, and Vadachennai became the highest-grossing A-rated Tamil film ever. He also acted in the action movies Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 (2017), Maari (2015), and Maari 2 (2018) in the 2010s.
The first Indian music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube was Dhanush’s widely-liked bilingual song “Why This Kolaveri Di” from the romantic psychological thriller film 3 (2012) in 2011. Raanjhanaa (2013), directed by Aanand L. Rai, marked his Bollywood film debut.
In addition to earning him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, his portrayal of an obsessive, one-sided lover in the movie earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
Inspired by Kuruthipunal (1995), a fictional covert operation, Venkatesh Prabhu took on the screen identity “Dhanush”. He made his feature debut in his father Kasthuri Raja’s teen drama Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002), which went on to become a surprise smash. Then, in 2003, he made an appearance in the romantic psychological thriller Kaadhal Kondein, his brother Selvaraghavan’s debut feature film.
In the movie, Dhanush played Vinodh, a mentally ill young man who desired for his friend’s love and eventually became possessive of her. The movie was a huge commercial and critical hit when it was released, and it ultimately became Dhanush’s big break in Tamil cinema. He received his first nomination for the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the movie as well.
Dhanush made appearances in Sulaan and Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan in 2004. Later, he had an appearance in Dreams, another movie that the critics criticized. Like their earlier projects,
his father directed the movie. Dhanush debuted in Devathaiyai Kanden in 2005 and contributed to Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam, directed by Balu Mahendra, in the same year. Dhanush has maintained time and time again that he did not take acting seriously until he worked with Mahendra, despite the film being a big catastrophe at the box office.
He and his brother came together to work on the cult gangster movie Pudhupettai in 2006. Though Dhanush’s performance garnered significant acclaim, the film initially drew mixed reviews as it depicted the progression of a young man from street urchin to gangster.
But as time passed, the movie received a lot of positive reviews and is today regarded as one of the best Tamil movies ever made. It has also developed a sizable cult following. As a result of his performance in the movie, Dhanush was nominated twice for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in Tamil.
In the same year, he also made his comeback to Boopathy Pandian for the romantic comedy Thiruvilaiyaadal Aarambam, starring Prakash Raj and Shriya Saran, following Devathaiyai Kanden. It was Dhanush’s first big commercial hit following a string of mediocre and below-average earners.
Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram, Dhanush’s debut film in 2007, was a box office failure. The movie was a reimagining of the popular Kannada film Jogi (2005).
About Sj Suryah :
Known by his stage name S. J. Suryah, Ustin Selvaraj Pandian (born 1968/1969) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, actor, composer, producer, and music director who primarily works in Tamil cinema. Although he began by directing and helping Vasanth and Sabhapathy, he intended to become an actor.
In 1999, Surya made his feature film directing debut with Vaali, whose box office success shot him to fame. Kushi (2000), New (2004), Anbe Aaruyire (2005), and Isai (2015) are some of his other well-known motion pictures. After making his acting debut in New, he went on to feature
in films such as Thirumagan (2007), Vyabari (2007), Kalvanin Kadhali (2006), and Spyder (2017). He also played antagonists in Maanaadu (2021), Don (2022), and Mark Antony (2023), as well as protagonists in Kadamaiyai Sei (2022) and Jigarthanda DoubleX (2023).
After finishing his education in the South Tamil Nadu town of Vasudevanallur, close to Puliangudi, Suryah relocated to Chennai to get his physics degree at Loyola College. He was given the chance to continue his education at an engineering college in Madurai, but he turned it down in favor of staying in Chennai with the hopes of becoming a successful actor in Tamil movies.
He started working as a steward and in hotels to become financially independent before being offered the opportunity to be an apprentice under K. Bhagyaraj. Following that, he served as an assistant director for the teams of Vasanth in Aasai (1995) and Sabapathy in Sundara Purushan (1996). He also made uncredited acting appearances, most notably as a cock fighter in Bharathiraja’s Kizhakku Cheemayile (1993).
Ajith Kumar, who played the lead role in Ullaasam (1997), acknowledged Suryah from their work together on Aasai and agreed to hear a script reading. After being pleasantly surprised by the narration, Ajith assisted in approaching S. S. Chakravarthy to produce the movie, and the group started working on Vaali (1999) in late 1997.
Prior to Simran taking over as the protagonist, Keerthi Reddy was confirmed as the leading lady; Suryah also made the decision to feature Jyothika in the movie. Ajith’s performance was praised by a Deccan Herald reviewer who called the thriller “definitely worth seeing” and adding that it “has something for all tastes — a pleasant love angle, some suspense, complex psychological nuances, good acting, pleasing songs”.
A reviewer from Indolink.com called Suryah “a new young director to the cine field who can make Tamil Cinema be proud once again” and described the movie as “a classic in its own right”. The film was described as “outstanding” by The New Indian Express, which also said that Surya performs a “good job and succeeds”. Due to the movie’s financial success, Suryah’s and the principal actors’ careers saw a breakthrough.
About Prakash Raj :
Born Prakash Rai on March 26, 1965, Prakash Raj is an Indian actor, producer, director, TV host, and politician. He has won multiple awards, including five National Film Awards, eight Nandi Awards, eight Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, five Filmfare Awards South, four SIIMA Awards, three CineMAA Awards, and three Vijay Awards.
He is well-known for his work in Telugu, Tamil, English, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi-language films. Raj is one of the most sought-after actors in Indian cinema due to his fluency in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, Tulu, and Marathi in addition to his native Kannada.
Raj began his career in cinema after working for a while in Kannada television and theatrical productions. He debuted in Tamil cinema with K. Balachander’s 1994 film Duet, and he has since been a financially successful Tamil film star. He called his producing firm Duet Movies in honor of them.
Being multilingual, he portrayed numerous characters, primarily as the adversary and more recently, as a character actor. As an actor, Prakash has received three National Film Awards: one in 1998 for Best Supporting Actor for Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar; one in 2007 for Best Actor for his performance in the Tamil film Kanchivaram; and one in 1998 for Special Mention for the Telugu film Antahpuram, directed by Krishna Vamsi.
On March 26, 1965, Prakash Raj was born in Bangalore to a Tuluva father and a Kannada mother.
Prasad Raj, his brother, is also an actor. After completing his education at St. Joseph’s Indian High School, he enrolled at Bangalore’s St. Joseph’s College of Commerce. Actress Geetha introduced Prakash Raj to well-known K. Balachander, the director of Tamil films. On the recommendation of K. Balachander, Prakash Raj changed his surname from Rai to Raj; he is still known as Prakash Rai in his native Karnataka.
In 1994, actor Prakash Raj wed Lalitha Kumari. They had a boy, Sidhu, who passed away in 2004 at the age of five following injuries he suffered in a fall while kite flying, and two daughters, Meghana and Pooja. 2009 saw the couple’s divorce.
About Selvaraghavan :
Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor Selvaraghavan has primarily directed and acted in Tamil films. Selvaraghavan made his directorial debut with Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002), in which his brother Dhanush K. Raja stars. However, his father is given credit for commercial reasons. After that, he directed a string of romantic drama films, including Kadhal Kondein (2003), which also starred Dhanush, and 7G Rainbow Colony (2004).
He then ventured into coming-of-age films, with Dhanush appearing in both Pudhupettai (2006) and Mayakkam Enna (2011). In Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and Irandam Ulagam (2013), he portrayed a parallel world and a fantasy Chola kingdom, respectively. He has also dabbled in science fiction and fantasy filmmaking. His directorial abilities have garnered high praise.
He wed the actress Sonia Agarwal on December 15, 2006; the two had previously collaborated on three movies. On August 9, 2009, Sonia Agarwal and Selvaraghavan filed for divorce with permission in a Chennai family court following two years of marriage.
On June 19, 2011, Selvaraghavan wed Gitanjali Raman, the daughter of P. S. Raman, the former advocate general of Tamil Nadu. In Mayakkam Enna, Gitanjali had served as his associate director. The couple’s son, Omkar, was born on October 7, 2013, and their daughter, Leelavathi, was born on January 20, 2012. On January 7, 2021, the couple gave birth to their third child, a boy they named Rishikesh.
Selvaraghavan and his sisters were encouraged by their parents to pursue a job with an academic background even though they come from a family in the film industry. He later earned a BEng. in Mechanical Engineering, but he admits he was “never going to become one of the best” and that his exam results were unimpressive.
He says he went through a “soul-searching” journey while pursuing other job choices part-time during his studies before realizing that writing was his true calling.[9] He tried approaching producers to get funding for his script writing after graduating in 1997, but he was never successful and frequently stayed at home as a jobless graduate.
With his father out of work in the early 2000s, his family was under financial strain, so they made the decision toto invest their leftover funds in a project that Selvaraghavan had developed, Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002). The film, which included his brother Dhanush in his first role along with Sherin and Abhinay, followed the coming-of-age tale of six high school students and had a popular Yuvan Shankar Raja soundtrack.
Following a modest premiere, the movie attracted adolescent crowds to theaters with its themes of adolescence while simultaneously receiving widespread publicity as a “soft porn” production. After that, it became a sleeper smash and received favorable reviews from reviewers for shattering the myths surrounding Tamil movies. Following the movie’s premiere, Selvaraghavan claimed to have directed it as well, but he was compelled to give credit to his father, Kasthuri Raja, a more seasoned director.
