Though Bhuvana, Velu’s younger sister, is a perceptive and intelligent schoolgirl who frequently gets Velu into problems with their father, she still loves him. Velu is once sent to a relative’s wedding in Trichy, but he sneaks away to play kabaddi in Madurai instead of attending the wedding.
A vicious Madurai gang boss named Muthupandi kills Dhanalakshmi’s elder brother when he turns down Muthupandi’s proposal of marriage because he wants to wed her. In an attempt to get revenge for his brother’s murder, Muthupandi also murders Dhanalakshmi’s second brother. The father of Dhanalakshmi becomes scared.
Muthupandi’s actions terrify Dhanalakshmi’s father, who gives her money and her degrees from university and urges her to leave Madurai and live in peace with her uncle in the US. Dhanalakshmi is captured by Muthupandi as she tries to flee. But after beating Muthupandi unconscious, Velu saves Dhanalakshmi and drives her to Chennai. Without telling his family, Velu brings Dhanalakshmi to his house and locks her in his chamber.
Home Minister Rajapandi, together with Muthupandi and his father, requests that Sivasubramaniam look for Dhanalakshmi and the alleged kidnapper. Soon after, Velu gets Dhanalakshmi a passport and airline tickets, and the two fall in love.
Velu and Dhanalakshmi flee Sivasubramaniam and take refuge in the lighthouse once Sivasubramaniam learns that Velu is the presumed kidnapper. Before their Kabaddi match versus Punjab in the National League final, Velu and his buddies arrive at the airport in time for Dhanalakshmi’s departure.
Enraged that Velu is participating in the Kabaddi event despite being wanted for criminal activity, Sivasubramaniam arrives to the stadium to arrest Velu. However, at Bhuvana’s plea, he chooses to arrest Velu after the Kabaddi match.
