About Journey :

The Steve Miller Band, Frumious Bandersnatch, and Santana all had members that went on to join the American rock group Journey in San Francisco in 1973. As of 2024, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, bassist Todd Jensen, drummer/vocalist Deen Castronovo, keyboardist/vocalist Jonathan Cain, guitarist/vocalist Jason Derlatka, and guitarist Neal Schon—the sole surviving original member—make up the band.

Stephen Ray Perry was born to Portuguese parents from the Azores in Hanford, California. He is the lone child in his family. Perry’s father, Raymond Perry (Pereira), was a singer and co-owner of the radio station KNGS, therefore he was exposed to music at a young age. When Perry was eight years old, his parents divorced. Then he relocated to his grandparents’ dairy farm with his mother.

Perry’s mother, Mary Quaresma, gave him a gold eighth note pendant for his twelfth birthday, and he wears it as a lucky charm. Perry was inspired to pursue a career in singing at the age of twelve after hearing Sam Cooke’s song “Cupid” on his mother’s car radio.

Perry was brought on tour and called the Portuguese relative of a roadie so as not to frighten Fleischman. While Fleischman was away from the stage, Perry secretly performed a song with Journey at a Long Beach sound check. Herbert then told the band that Perry was the new lead singer.

Infinity (1978), Evolution (1979), Departure (1980), Dream, After Dream (1980, Japanese film soundtrack), Captured (1980), a live album, Escape (1981, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard chart), Frontiers (1983), Raised on Radio (1986), and Trial By Fire (1996) are the nine Journey albums on which Perry sang lead vocals. Their biggest hit single was “Open Arms” from Escape, which spent six weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

American musician and songwriter Neal Joseph Schon was born on February 27, 1954. He is most known for being the lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock group Journey. He is the final founding member who has persisted throughout the group’s existence. Before starting Journey, he was in the rock group Santana. In addition, he was a founding member of Hardline and played with the band Bad English from 1987 to 1995, when Journey took a break.

Schon was admitted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and, as a member of Journey, into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Neal The son of Matthew and Barbara Schon, Joseph Schon was born in Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He has Italian and German origins. His mother was a big band singer, while his father was a large band musician, arranger, and composer who also taught and performed on all reed instruments, with a focus on jazz tenor saxophone. Schon picked up the guitar at the age of ten. After attending San Mateo, California’s Aragon High School, he left to focus on his musical career.

A rapid study, he signed on with Santana in 1971 at the age of 17. According to Schon, he was approached to join Derek and the Dominos by Eric Clapton, but he chose to join Santana instead, appearing on the albums Caravanserai and Santana III. Schon participated in the band as well.

Schon performed for North Bay Fire Relief during a benefit concert at The Independent in San Francisco on February 9, 2018. The lineup that was assembled included bassist Marco Mendoza of The Dead Daisies, former Journey pianist Gregg Rolie, and drummer Deen Castronovo, who also provided some vocals. On May 19, 2023, a live album and DVD of the show were released.

Schon revealed plans to embark on a tour dubbed Neal Schon’s Journey Through Time in 2019. Mendoza, Rolie, and Castronovo were supposed to be on the trip.

In the opening game of the 2022 NBA Finals, Schon performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the electric guitar.

About Jonathan Cain :

Born on February 26, 1950, Jonathan Leonard Friga (sometimes professionally referred to as Jonathan Cain) is an American musician, singer, and composer. His most well-known role is that of Journey’s rhythm guitarist and keyboardist. He has also collaborated with Bad English and The Babys. In 2017, Cain, along with the rest of Journey, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In addition, he pursues a solo career as a modern-day Christian musician.

Leonard and Nancy Friga welcomed Cain into the world in Chicago. Cain started taking accordion lessons at the age of eight, and by the time he was in his teens, he was performing in clubs and at parties on the accordion and piano. He is a bass, guitar, and harmonica player as well. 92 pupils and three nuns perished in the 1958 fire at Our Lady of the Angels School, but Cain survived.

After completing his education at the Chicago suburb of East Leyden High School in 1968, Cain went on to the Chicago Conservatory of Music

Subsequent to releasing a pair of 45s on the Dial label under the Johnny Lee moniker, which were derived from tapes recorded at Golden Voice in South Pekin, IL, he also issued a 45 on an unknown independent label on “October” as Jonathan Cain. Windy City Breakdown, the second album Cain recorded with the Jonathan Cain Band, was published by Bearsville Records in 1976. He became a member of The Babys in 1979, making appearances on the albums Union Jacks and On the Edge.

Cain replaced keyboardist Gregg Rolie in the rock group Journey after leaving The Babys in 1980. With his initial collaborations on the album Escape, Cain composed and played the piano on songs like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which helped Journey reach the top of the charts.
