“Believer” is a song by American pop rock band Imagine Dragons. The song was released on February 1, 2017, through Interscope Records and Kidinakorner as the lead single from the band’s third studio album, Evolve (2017). It was written by Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, Daniel Platzman, Justin Tranter, Jamie marcel and its producers Mattman & Robin.

About Imagine Dragons :

After “Radioactive” and “Demons,” “Believer” became the band’s third top ten hit, peaking at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Switzerland all had it in the top 10. After appearing in the first season finale of The CW’s Riverdale, the song experienced a significant surge in popularity.

The song was aired extensively in trailers for movies and television shows, most notably the Nintendo Switch Super Bowl LI commercial. It went on to become one of the all-time best-selling singles and the sixth best-selling song of 2017 in the US. The song has received over 2.2 billion Spotify plays as of November 2022.

A new version of the song featuring American rapper Lil Wayne was released on January 8, 2019. On October 31, 2022, a Halloween mix was made available. A teaser for the song was shown during the October 27, 2022, episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Dan Reynolds revealed to People in March 2017 that his experiences in 2015 with ankylosing spondylitis served as the inspiration for the song. “The meaning of the song is really reflecting on specific things that were painful in my life,” he stated.

“These could be things like disease, going through a period of depression, anxiety and dealing with crowds, feeling overwhelmed by that or the band’s success.” And simply getting over it, gaining a viewpoint that allowed me to accept the suffering I’ve had and turn it into my greatest asset.”

Matt Eastin directed the official music video for the song, which was made available on Imagine Dragons’ Vevo account on March 7, 2017. Reynolds and Dolph Lundgren box in it, and there are moments where it appears as though a young Dan is sketching on his notepad. Dan claims he wants to stop since he is losing, but Dolph argues, “We can’t.

” By the time it finishes, Reynolds is almost aware, and Young Dan has drawn the “Evolve” symbol, which is the exact same as the one on Reynolds’ breast. Billboard released a list of the top 100 most successful songs in the history of the chart in late 2023 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Alternative Songs, which had by then changed its name to Alternative Airplay. “Believer” was placed at number 43.

“Believer” made its television debut on the March 22, 2017 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, an ABC late-night talk show. Afterwards, they played the song live on BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. During the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship halftime spectacle, “Believer” was played once more.

The song was sung by Grammy Award-winning singer Michelle Williams on the second US season of The Masked Singer.

After performing her version of the song (along with another), Jeryl Lee won the competition in the finals of China’s reality TV singing competition, The Next 2023.

About Matt Eastin :

American filmmaker and editor of music videos, documentaries, and commercials, Matt Eastin was born on June 3, 1979. His work with Imagine Dragons is what made him most famous. He directed and edited the music videos for Wrecked, Follow You, Cutthroat, Believer, Whatever it Takes, Roots, On Top of the World, and Shots (Broiler Remix).

Along with co-creating and directing the AUDIO-FILES TV series, Eastin also oversaw the live performances of indie bands like The Head & the Heart, Low, Neon Trees, and Mates of State as well as films about their hometowns. Matt began his career as a member of The Occidental Saloon, a collective production company, making free music videos for bands in the Utah music scene.

Additionally, Matt has directed and edited several commercial campaigns for Utah’s Lagoon amusement park. During the Adobe “Make The Cut” competition in 2017, Matt collaborated with Imagine Dragons and Adobe Premiere to enable fans and amateur editors to retouch the uncut video from the Imagine Dragons “Believer” song in order to win prizes.

The astronaut suits and other props from Imagine Dragons’ “On Top of the World” music video have been on display at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas since early 2014, and Eastin is given credit for the work.

Imagine Dragons’ “Whatever it Takes” music video, which Eastin and Aaron Hymes co-directed in 2018, took up the MTV VMA for “Best Rock Video.”
