The British rock group Coldplay was founded in London in 1997. They include guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion, guitarist Chris Martin, and manager Phil Harvey.[a] Their live performances are their most well-known [3], and their music, advocacy, and accomplishments have had a significant influence on popular culture.

History 1997–1999: Establishment and initial years
Tim Crompton, a personal friend and fellow UCL student, was responsible for the ultimate name change. Tim was in the process of assembling a group of former classmates who would subsequently be known as Bettina Motive. After discovering a copy of Philip Horky’s book, Child’s Reflections, Cold Play, he had thought of the name while he was waiting for a delayed moving van. Tim’s list of possible band names was promptly turned down, and Cold Play’s future bandmates threw it away since they didn’t like it. Picking it up made the starfish happy.

In September 1996, during their first week at University College London, Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland crossed paths. They started writing they practiced their first songs together every night starting in early 1997. In the ensuing months, Guy Berryman became the third member of the band, and by November, the trio—who had produced multiple demos without a drummer—had adopted the moniker Big Fat Noises.

Will Champion finished the lineup in January 1998. He added that Martin, Buckland, and Berryman had come to his place because a roommate who was a competent drummer and had a drum kit “just said [I would] give it a go” because the roommate did not show up for the session.

Just a few days after joining the band, Champion set the date for its debut. Since they hadn’t decided on a real name yet, they went by Starfish for the performance, which took place on 16 January 1998 at Camden’s The Laurel Tree. The band decided on Coldplay a few weeks later. Martin’s longstanding friend Phil Harvey provided funding for their independent EP, Safety, which was published in May. Out of 500 copies, 150 were sold on the open market. Harvey gave the others to record labels after selling the first one to his roommate for £3.

Harvey recommended the band organize their own show at Dingwalls, where they sold 50 copies of Safety, while Martin was complaining about the “vice-like grip” one of the Camden promoters had on the band. Harvey’s official appointment as Coldplay’s manager is typically seen as this occasion. In order to focus on the position, he ultimately left his course at Trinity College, Oxford.

Throughout the summer, more performances were planned. When “[they] discussed it again a couple of weeks later, he said that the rest of the band weren’t keen on adding a member,” Martin’s attempt to get Tim Rice-Oxley to join the band as a keyboard player was unsuccessful. A&R scout Debs Wild found them when they played at Manchester’s In the City showcase in September 1998. A tape demo featuring “Ode to Deodorant” and “Brothers & Sisters” came after Safety.

Wild told Caroline Elleray of BMG Publishing and Gavin Maude, a music lawyer, about the ensemble. Dan Keeling had already passed them on when Elleray spoke with him at Parlophone. Maude, on the other hand, spoke with Simon Williams of Fierce Panda Records, who reached out to Steve Lamacq. January 3rd 1999 Coldplay made history by being the first unsigned artist to appear on Lamacq’s Evening Session. They re-recorded “Brothers & Sisters” and secured a short-term contract with Fierce Panda a month later.

As the band’s reputation increased, six labels offered a contract; nevertheless, they wanted Parlophone, which prompted Elleray to visit Keeling once more. In April 1999, the same month that “Brothers & Sisters” was released, he had second thoughts and the agreement was signed at Trafalgar Square. They spent the following days preparing for the final exams at UCL.

Coldplay debuted in the New Bands Tent at the Glastonbury Festival on June 27, 1999. They went on to record The Blue Room, which was printed and distributed to the general public in 5,000 copies. Its meetings were initially intended for Parachutes (2000), but turned turbulent as a result of Martin’s contentious debates about Champion’s drumming skills.

“Three days later, the rest of us were feeling miserable, […] we asked him to come back,” the singer said. After resolving their issues, the band decided to function as a democracy, enacted new guidelines, and declared that anyone caught using hard drugs would be expelled from the group right away. From 2000 to 2001: Parachutes
Initially, the band intended to record Parachutes, their debut album, in two weeks. But because of live performances and other performances, which were recorded from September 1999 to April–May 2000. Although the majority of Parachutes’ tracks were recorded at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios (using three studio rooms),

On March 2, 1977, Christopher Anthony John Martin was born in Exeter, Devon, England.He is the oldest of five children . Anthony John Martin, his father, is a chartered accountant who is retired. Alison Martin, his mother, is a Zimbabwean music educator. His grandfather John Besley Martin, CBE, a High Sheriff who served as Exeter’s mayor in 1968, established his family’s caravan and motorhome sales company, Martin’s of Exeter, in 1929. William Willett, his great-great-grandfather, pushed for and established daylight saving time as a recognized norm.

When Martin was ten years old, his family moved to Zimbabwe . He then attended the Hylton and Exeter Cathedral schools, where he discovered his love for music.

He met Coldplay manager Phil Harvey while completing his secondary studies at Sherborne School. Charity
Martin joined Michael Stipe in performing “Losing My Religion” as one of three songs during the “12/12/12 Concert” on December 12, 2012, which was organized as a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy recovery. Martin joined the nonprofit organization Band Aid 30 on November 15, 2014, and performed with British and Irish pop artists on the most recent rendition of the song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” at Sarm.

In order to raise money for the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Western Africa, Martin participated in a Band Aid recording for the second time, having previously performed on the 2004 version at West Studios in Notting Hill, London. Through a video link, Martin participated in the televised debut of the music streaming service Tidal in March 2015 and disclosed that he and other well-known musicians were shareholders in the business. After discovering that the son of then-Vice President Joe Biden, Beau Biden, was a fan of Martin’s, Martin sang “Til Kingdom Come” at his funeral Mass in June 2015.
